Sources — Type 3 diabetes / Alzheimer's (academic track)
All images on the two academic graphics are real, openly-licensed data. PDB coordinates are public domain. Diagrams/schematics are labeled as such on the graphics.
Images used
Molecular cascade (all rendered by us from public-domain PDB coordinates)
-
Human insulin — PDB 2HIU (NMR structure; model 1 shown). Rendered with our own CA-trace tube renderer.
-
Insulin receptor ectodomain — PDB 4ZXB (X-ray structure, IRΔβ construct in complex with four Fab molecules; the Fabs are crystallisation aids). Rendered with our own CA-trace tube renderer. The on-graphic caption notes the crystallisation Fabs honestly.
-
GLUT3 glucose transporter — PDB 4ZWC (X-ray structure, maltose-bound outward-open state). Rendered with our own CA-trace tube renderer.
PDB coordinates are public domain; these panels are our own renders, not reused figures.

Rejected candidates
- Several otherwise-suitable Wikimedia Commons images were rejected because they are licensed CC BY-SA, which the project policy forbids (open policy: CC0 or CC-BY only).
- Figures from papers cited in the page's review HTML that are not openly licensed were rejected — their rights do not permit reuse.
- No images were fabricated: no AI-generated micrographs, no invented charts or scans. Where no open imagery existed, the remaining panel was a clearly-labeled schematic.
