# Adversarial review log - genome-instability-cancer (9 October 2026 revised edition)

Authoring model: **Sol 6.1**. Adversarial reviewer: **Claude Opus 5.5 (Anthropic)**. Date: **2026-10-14**.
Round 2 of the Sol 6.1 HSEF v5.3 adversarial pass. Revised edition: findings are marked as revision-introduced
(regression) or inherited.

| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| HSEF level before -> after | Gamma (Mechanistically plausible, partial system support) -> Gamma (unchanged) |
| Confidence before -> after | Moderate -> Moderate (unchanged) |
| Causal role | reinforcing / stabilizing factor (unchanged) |
| **Momentum before -> after** | **Decisive work underway -> Mechanistic only** |
| Findings | Critical 0 - Major 2 (1 revision-introduced) - Minor 4 - Editorial 0 |
| PMIDs verified | 61/61 reference PMIDs plus 3 status-flag identifiers; 0 failures |
| Claims spot-checked | 14 load-bearing claims against original abstracts; all matched |
| Validator | FAIL on `v5.lay_summary` only (v5.4 rule against a self-declared v5.3 review - cross-version artifact), plus 2 `v5.claim_form` warnings rejected per the round-2 conventions. 33 checks pass. |

## Findings

| ID | Severity | Location | Correction |
|---|---|---|---|
| AR-1 | Major - revision-introduced regression | Spliced Consensus provenance block; `consensus-addendum.md` | False-approval clause rescoped. No adversarial approval exists for this case - the original edition in `hsef_v53_popularity_ranks_36_40_2026-10-08` carries none. Rescoped, not deleted. |
| AR-2 | Major | AT A GLANCE; M/S/D section; scorecard `extended_scoring_MSD.momentum` | Momentum "Decisive work underway" -> "Mechanistic only". The artifact named two completed 2025 publications already in the review's own examined inventory, neither addressing the general-primacy boundary check; and the Stability entry in the same block already said no pending result was claimed. Momentum modifies no letter. |
| AR-3 | Minor | Throughout | 63 renderer-dropped spaces repaired (33 citation groups, 29 link texts, one numeral). Whitespace only. |
| AR-4 | Minor | REFERENCES 36, 52, 54, 56 | Four empty `DOI: .` fields replaced with "No DOI in PubMed record." (verified absent in the PubMed XML). |
| AR-5 | Minor | Evidence cards for PMID 33361815, 30675059, 37410869 | Erratum/update flags given their citations, read off each parent record's own CommentsCorrections element. |
| AR-6 | Minor | scorecard `final_score.confidence_rationale` (3 occurrences) | Access depth struck as a determinant per the lead's two-step policy; band re-derived and stands at Moderate on the review's own documented evidence-quality reservations. |

Level, confidence, role, stability, divergence, subclaim levels, source count and claim count all unchanged.

## Rejected findings

Headline Gamma argued up to Epsilon (SC3) and Zeta (SC2): rejected - primary-subclaim was pre-registered on SC4,
and the two printed sensitivities are correct, weakest-link returning Beta from SC1 and scope-matched returning
Gamma because SC4 is the only subclaim whose scope matches the central claim's general scope. This is precisely
the scope-matched misreading the round-2 brief warns about, and this review does **not** commit it. Also rejected:
SC2 at Zeta (independence basis recorded and survives the v5.2 shared-failure test); the causal role, re-derived
through the framework's ordered steps to the same answer; "Best-supported rival" (scorecard confirms rank 1,
is_nominal false, nominal is rank 5 - renderer defect does not fire); Divergence "Contested" with a recorded null
implied level; the statement that the tournament does not alter the level; collective authors (TRACERx consortium
absorbed into "et al.", no stray comma); and both `v5.claim_form` validator warnings, per the round-2 convention -
the restatement is a well-formed single causal claim and its "or" sits inside the contrast clause
("rather than X or Y"), not between two hypotheses.

## Note for the lead

The momentum defect here is the one your note describes exactly: a real artifact naming real studies, but
completed publications rather than work being run. It was also internally detectable - the Stability entry
immediately below it contradicted it.
