# Adversarial review log — hiv-aids

Authoring model: Sol 6.1. Adversarial reviewer: Claude Opus 5.5 (Anthropic). Date: 2026-10-14.
Round 2 of the Sol 6.1 adversarial review programme (group 3).

| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Level before → after | Θ (High predictive accuracy, minimal unresolved exceptions) → Θ (unchanged) |
| Confidence before → after | Moderate → **High** |
| Role / Momentum / Stability / Divergence | unchanged (primary driver; Mechanistic only; Stable; Aligned) |
| Findings | Critical 0, Major 1, Minor 2, Editorial 0 |
| PMIDs verified | 63/63 reference PMIDs resolved to the stated title, first author, journal and year; no retractions or expressions of concern; collective authors render correctly; shared-study grouping present |
| Load-bearing claims spot-checked | 11 |
| Validator | PASS — 0 fail, 0 warn, 29 pass (validate_review.py v2.3, the batch's own copy); identical check set to the pre-review report. Output in `validator.txt`; pre-review report kept at `sol61-original/validation-report.json` |

## Findings

| ID | Severity | Location | Original → corrected | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HIV-1 | Major | AT A GLANCE table; steelman closing line; score card `final_score.confidence`/`confidence_rationale` and the SC2/SC3 bands | Moderate → **High** | Framework: "Confidence reflects evidence density and reproducibility", and High is "extensive independent replication across labs, models, and assay modalities; reproducibility well-established." The case rests on 28 pooled seroconverter cohorts (CASCADE) and several independent randomized trials (START, SMART, HPTN052, CHER, TEMPRANO, ACTG 076, iPrEx, Partners PrEP). The original rationale set the band from this audit's access depth, which the framework does not use as a confidence criterion. SC1 left at Moderate (observational chronology with heterogeneous ascertainment). No letter changes. |
| HIV-2 | Minor | "Falsification and pitfalls" | Heading with no content → statement that no rubric-05 falsification pattern was triggered plus the four interpretive pitfalls the review surfaces elsewhere; `pitfalls_flagged` populated to match | SKILL.md Step 11 requires pitfalls to be surfaced in the prose; the section was empty because `adjudication.json` carried empty `falsification`/`pitfalls` arrays. The added items restate positions already argued in the review; no downgrade follows. |
| HIV-3 | Minor | REFERENCES 6, 7, 8, 11, 14, 19, 43 | "DOI: ." → "No DOI in the PubMed record." (7 instances) | Known empty-field rendering defect; PubMed carries no DOI for these records. |

## Rejected findings (checked, no change)

1. Headline Θ — Ω correctly withheld (necessity without infection-alone sufficiency); Η would understate the predictive consistency. Scoring this mainstream causal claim high is what the framework's upper-ladder and calibration sections require.
2. Primary-subclaim aggregation on SC3 → Θ; alternatives reported (weakest-link Η, scope-matched Θ).
3. Momentum "Mechanistic only" with a proper artifact naming completed/mechanistic programmes (NCT00867048, NCT00102960, NCT00074581, PMID 38376918).
4. Divergence "Aligned" with implied level and arithmetic stated.
5. Role "primary driver" derived at step 3 and distinguished from sole sufficient cause.
6. Non-HIV idiopathic CD4 lymphocytopenia used to bound phenotype specificity, not to deny the viral cause — correct handling.
7. Numeric and design claims verified: PMIDs 26192873 (HR 0.43; serious AIDS events 0.28; blinded event review), 17135583 (HR 2.6, falling to 1.5 after time-updated adjustment), 24602844 (primary composite 0.73, p=0.074; new-onset AIDS 0.64, p=0.031), 19020325 (76% infant mortality reduction), 21596680 (no mortality benefit, more grade 4 events), 26423816 (non-progression = AIDS-free, ART-naive, CD4 ≥ 500; most lose that status), 18648518 (infection in a CCR5-Δ32 homozygote), 12487823, 21091279, 22784037, 7935654.
8. Shared-parent reports (SMART, HPTN052, TEMPRANO, CASCADE, the Spanish 251-patient cohort) carry shared `Study:` identifiers and are counted once — the v5.3 one-study rule is honoured.

## Residual limitations

- Access depth unchanged: 3 partial-body and 60 abstract/status examinations.
- `adjudication.json` (the authoring run's decision record) still carries the pre-correction confidence and the empty pitfall arrays; it was deliberately left intact as provenance.
- The identical access-based confidence boilerplate ("density, heterogeneous controls and incomplete access set the confidence") appears in all five cases of this batch with the value Moderate. Only this case was corrected; the lead should review the pattern batch-wide.

**Approval:** Following adversarial review and the corrections listed above, the revised document is approved. — Claude Opus 5.5 (Anthropic), 2026-10-14.
