# Video research-update insert: Ultra-processed Food and Excess Energy Intake

Editorial script and storyboard insert, 5 October 2026. No rendered video. Read alongside the original review; no new grade is announced.

## Narration

Controlled diets can change intake and weight, while texture and eating rate produce effects within processing categories. Establishing a category-wide effect independent of the properties consumed requires stronger separation of composition, physical structure and proposed mechanisms.

In the 2019 study, the ultra-processed diet increased intake and weight relative to its comparator. Matched offered nutrients do not guarantee matched consumed composition, nonbeverage density or eating rate; corrections retained. [P31105044]

In the 2025 study, a milkshake produced no significant average striatal dopamine response by the measured method. A single food and measurement sensitivity do not exclude every reward mechanism. [P40043691]

In the 2026 study, processing did not affect subsequent intake or short-term satiety in the tested design. Acute preload results do not refute every longer whole-diet effect; shares a registry with source 10. [P42633852]

The next discriminating question is: Does category membership predict effects after food properties are controlled? Eating rate, density or nutrient selection may account for a diet contrast. Factorial processing-by-texture designs with measured consumed density/composition, palatability and beverage calories; prespecified category interaction.

The timeline shows selected changes in evidence, not inevitable progress or proof of a single cause. The review’s archived grade remains unchanged; the depth of source reading is documented in the update.

## Editorial constraints

- Use the primary-source links shown above and keep the inference limit on screen with each milestone.
- Do not narrate an abstract check as complete-paper examination, a model result as human proof, or an unresolved inference as absence of all research.
- Preserve trial endpoint hierarchy, cohort reuse, correction notices and online/issue dates.
- Use original graphics made from this ledger. Publisher figure imagery has not been cleared or supplied for video reuse.
- Confirm any change in verdict through a separate documented HSEF review; this insert makes none.
